Shanghai: A Multifunction Wardrobe Redefining Space

Julia Subbotina's Award-Winning Design Merges Functionality and Aesthetics

Shanghai, a multifunction wardrobe designed by Julia Subbotina, is a unique fusion of form and function. Inspired by the dynamic city of Shanghai, the wardrobe embodies freedom, purity, and fluency of line. It offers a fresh perspective on space utilization and interior design, redefining the concept of a wardrobe.

Julia Subbotina's Shanghai is not just a wardrobe; it's a comprehensive storage system that meets the needs of modern individuals. The wardrobe includes storage spaces of varying volumes, built-in bedside tables, and night lamps. It also features motion sensors for convenient light control. The design saves space, simplifies operation, and enhances room aesthetics.

The Shanghai wardrobe is made from eco-friendly MDF-bleached oak-tree. The main part of the wardrobe is crafted from tiny wooden shaped pieces, with the elevation handcrafted from 1500 pieces of kempas and 4500 pieces of bleached oak. The mirror part of the wardrobe features UV printing according to Subbotina's sketches, adding an artistic touch to the functional design.

The wardrobe measures 2995mm in height, 3270mm in width, with a depth of 250mm for the main part and 350mm for the projected mirror part. It's a perfect blend of design and functionality, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a modern, comfortable, and up-to-date wardrobe.

Subbotina's Shanghai wardrobe plays a significant role in creating room space, especially in smaller rooms. It appears as a decorative wall, expanding the room space with its mirror frontage. The wardrobe eliminates the need for excess shelves, providing ample storage space behind and above the bed. It's easy to clean and doesn't collect dust, making it a practical choice for any home.

The Shanghai wardrobe was manufactured in Perm, Russia, from July to December 2012. Despite the challenges faced during the manufacturing process, the wardrobe was produced to a high quality. The manual work required patience, but the end result was a product that left no one indifferent.

In recognition of its innovative design and functionality, the Shanghai wardrobe was awarded the Golden A' Furniture Design Award in 2013. This prestigious award is granted to outstanding creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, advancing art, science, design, and technology.
